How was your day
hair, wood table
2007

“How was your day?” is an exploration of the subtle yet pervasive expectations within domestic and marital life. Using a second-hand IKEA dining table as the centerpiece, the work features placemats formed from the artist’s and her husband’s hair, symbolizing the presence and identities of two individuals performing their roles within marriage. The use of hair introduces a visceral and intimate element, turning the table from a familiar site of shared routine into an unsettling space that challenges traditional gender roles and expectations, such as the pressure to have children. The piece invites viewers to reflect on how even ordinary spaces can be imbued with the weight of social norms, highlighting the tension between conformity and individuality within relationships.
